Eintracht Frankfurt and West Ham United battle out for the place in the Europa League final stage at Seville. The German outfit narrowly beat David Moyes’ men last week thanks to Daichi Kamada’s decisive strike.

Frankfurt approach their Monday Bundesliga game as an afterthought

Oliver Glasner understandably picked his second-fiddle side for the trip to Bayer Leverkusen in their game against Bayer Leverkusen. They couldn’t secure a European qualification spot based on their league position.

Glasner admits he had to manage the tight scheduling and went for a changed lineup to battle Champions League-hopefuls Leverkusen. Moussa Diaby was the star of the show as he sublimely assisted Leverkusen’s both goals.

If Frankfurt did manage to win the Europa League this season, Germany will have an eighth representative in the Bundesliga. The success of Glasner’s side and RB Leipzig already helped Bundesliga propel Serie A in the European leagues’ coefficient.

When and where to watch?

The match kicks off at 20:00 on Thursday 5th May 2022, and the entire match will be available on BT Sport.

West Ham had a fierce London derby on Sunday

On the contrary, West Ham gave their all in the London derby against Arsenal this weekend. Moyes is still hopeful his side can finish in one of the European places based on their league position.

Against the back-in-form Arsenal, West Ham showed fighting spirit and willingness, but they suffered a second home defeat in the space of three days. There is also a chance for an extra English team to snatch a European spot based on the results of the Champions League.

The Arsenal defeat was West Ham’s third in the last four games of the Premier League. They only managed to find the net twice in that span. West Ham also lost each of their last four away games in the league.

Sensational game at the London Stadium

Chances was at both ends as West Ham and Frankfurt played a memorable first-leg game. Ansgar Knauff put Frankfurt ahead in the first minute, but West Ham leveled back with Antonio. From there on, the game could’ve gone both ways. Kamada decided the tie with a well-taken team move before hitting the crossbar. West Ham also came close to tying the game with super-sub Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen.

Eintracht Frankfurt & West Ham Team News

Jesper Lindstrom could miss out on the crucial game due to a hamstring injury. Jens Petter Hauge is expected to fill in the gap, but he didn’t have the best of games on Monday. Sebastian Rode and Martin Hinteregger will be back in the squad as the previously suspended Evan Ndicka and Kristijan Jakic.

Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna are the only absentees from West Ham’s camp.

Start of the game would be key

Although a negative implication at the start wouldn’t affect the atmosphere in Frankfurt like West Ham fans, this could go down with how the sides fare at the first 20 minutes of the game. Frankfurt will not sit on the narrow lead with the big support in the arena behind them. West Ham didn’t win the first-leg of their previous two knockout stage ties against Sevilla and Olympique Lyon.
