The Milan derby will take place on Saturday with the clubs vying for the Scudetto. Although Inter has a game to spare, there are only four points between them ahead of the second derby of the season.

Inter in great shape for a successive Scudetto

Inter’s last defeat came against Lazio nearly four months ago. Simeone Inzaghi’s side also progressed from their Champions League group and won the Super Cup since the new gaffer lost to his former club.

A goalless draw against Atalanta looked to pave the way for the suitors, but the gap remained intact with Napoli and Milan struggling for consistency for a while after their good starts to the season.

Inter picked up their ninth win in ten games when they bounced back with a 2-1 success over Venezia. Edin Dzeko netted the winner in the final minute of regular time for his ninth of the season since joining them from AS Roma.

When and where to watch?

The match kicks off at 17:00 on Saturday 5th February 2022, and the entire match will be available on BT Sport 2.

Milan look for a first win in three games

Stefano Pioli’s side could’ve been level on points with Inter if they won their last two games before the derby. But they lost to Spezia at home before a dull goalless draw against Juventus last week.

Their defensive performance hasn’t been to their standard from last season as they also struggle to replace the injured Simon Kjaer. Upfront, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is fitter this season alongside Rafael Leao, who improved significantly this term.

Before they face Lazio in the Coppa Italia, while city rivals Inter host the other capital club, Roma, Milan will hope to regain their territory in the title race with a statement win against the defending champions.

1-1 in the reverse fixture

After ten knockouts, the Milan derby ended in a draw last time out. Ciprian Tatarusanu, who was in goal in place of injured Mike Maignan, saved Lautaro Martinez’s penalty-kick in an eventful first-half. Inter earlier took the lead with Hakan Calhanoglu scoring his penalty in his first derby since exchanging the Milan clubs in the summer. Stefan de Vrij’s own-goal salvaged a point for Milan as they were happy with a point considering Inter was the better side on the night.

Inter & AC Milan Team News

Robin Gosens could make his Inter debut, but Joaquin Correa is out with a hamstring injury.

Zlatan has issues with an achilles tendon injury. Milan will also miss the services of center backs Fikayo Tomori and Kjaer.

Goals festival or a tactical battle?

When the two sides had a difficult time without European nights, the Milan derby is always fun with lots of goals and drama. Both of them are now flying high on the table, but the goals have not been flowing as they used to be, although the drama is always there. With Inter’s comfortable lead in the standings, the pressure is on AC Milan to narrow the gap between the clubs.
