Yesterday our first selection, Recall The Show ran in the 3.35 pm race at Brighton and won by half a length, at odds of 10/3 SP at the bookies.
Chased the leader early on and led with five furlongs still left to run, had Vape right on his tail as in his last race, and managed to keep him at bay. A good win for us, and at nice odds too.
Our second selection Aweemaweh ran in the 4.05 pm race at Brighton and finished in the third position from six runners, at odds of 13/8 SP at the bookies.
He looked to dither a little at the start but then soon took a keen hold. Chased the leader before being nudged along and made a strong challenge with three left to run, a bit short of room and soon outpaced, though. He kept on but not strong enough to get ahead. So no luck for our double yesterday, unfortunately.
Today's first selection is Last Date and runs in the 5.40 pm race at Chelmsford.
The going is classed as standard at Chelmsford today, over their all-weather Polytrack course. The race is a class six Handicap, running over a distance of seven furlongs. Five runners are headed to post, and the age criteria is for four-year-olds and over, with all five runners being four years of age.
Bezzas Lad looks the likely threat in this race, with two good runs in his last two races, but hasn't run for just over two hundred days, so unsure if he's fit enough. Last Date looks far more likely to win, having run recently and more experience on all-weather courses than Bezzas Lad.
Last Date has nine tips to his name, Bezzas Lad three, and just the one for Salam Ya Faisal.
Ivan Furtado is the trainer for this first leg of our double today, who has a recent run for form figure of forty per cent. Over the last couple of weeks, he's had just the one winner from his previous fifteen races, with an additional three finishing within the placings.
Dougie Costello is our jockey for today and won two races from his last twenty-four races during the previous fourteen days. He's successfully steered five of these into a placing position. He's not ridden for Ivan lately and not ridden Last Date since December last year, but when he did, he performed relatively well, which bodes well for us today.
Last Date last ran twenty-seven days ago and proven over the course and distance. He won by a nose in his previous race, running in a class six race at Chelmsford, over a distance of seven furlongs. Before that, he finished in the seventh position from twelve runners in a class six race at Southwell, over seven furlongs. Before that finished second by half a length, the race in a class six race at Southwell, over seven furlongs also. He looks to perform well at Chelmsford generally, so confident he'll do well today.
Today's second selection is Pax Brittanica and runs in the 6.10 pm race at Chelmsford.
As per our first selection, also running at Chelmsford, the going is classed as standard. The race is a class five Handicap, running over a distance of one mile and six furlongs. Seven runners head to post, and the age criteria are for four-year-olds and upwards. The youngest is a four-year-old, the eldest a five-year-old.
Possibly Justified is the one to keep an eye on in this race, who wasn't too far off the winner last time out at Catterick. To be honest, Pax Brittanica looks to have this race sewn up; he does look to have everything going for him today.
Pax Brittanica has seven tips to his name, Justified four, and Aldrich Bay three.
David Simcock is our trainer for this second leg of our double today, with a recent run to form figure of sixty-eight per cent. He's sent out five runners over the last fortnight, of which none have won and just the one place.
Louis Steward is our jockey for this race, who has won one race from his last four over the last couple of weeks, with no additional placings. Louis hasn't ridden for David lately and never ridden Pax Brittanica. Still, he looks a good enough horse to be saddled by most jockeys.
Pax Brittanica last ran one hundred and sixty-nine days ago, is proved over the dual course and distance, and wearing blinkers for the first time. He finished third from seven runners in his last race, running in a class four race at Newcastle, over a distance of two miles and half a furlong.
The race previous to that, he won by three lengths, in a class six race at Chelmsford, over one mile and six furlongs. Then before that, won by half a length, in a class six race at Wolverhampton, over one mile and four furlongs. It looks like today's distance is preferred, so he should run well.
Bet365 have Last Date priced up at 11/10 and Pax Brittanica at 5/2.
Double odds work out at 6.35/1 (7.35.) Good luck, everyone.
