About Us

My name is Steve Trow, and I'm the founder of Bets For Today. Therefore, I'm well-placed to tell you all about it. I've been interested in gambling ever since I turned 18.

Ever since school, I've been into football statistics and used to keep detailed notes on league positions, goals scored, etc. Numbers were always my thing, and I went into a career in accountancy, where I flourished in various roles.

My first real money bets came when I got my first job in Manchester city centre, where I happened to join an office that loved a Friday flutter.

I was like everyone else when they first started out, overawed at the sheer number of betting options available, overawed at the smoky bookmakers, overawed at the shady punters. Like most people starting out, I also lost the majority of the times I bet.

My first football bets were on the long list football coupons, betting the princely sums of 50p or sometimes £1 if it was payday! From there, I progressed onto trying Lucky 15s, Yankees and even the Irish Lottery.

Unsurprisingly, I wasn't profitable, but early on, I was fortunate to recognise that setting budgets and having a plan to gamble responsibly.

I had a fair few run-ins with bookies over the years, from unpaid winnings, underpaid winnings and bet restrictions, and that's only in the land-based bookmakers.

A Chance Meeting

After an opportune game of snooker one night in the mid-2000s, I learned about Betfair from my opponent (another Steve), who told me all about the green screen and the like.

A steep learning curve set in, and after starting an online P&L blog to instil discipline in my trading, I began making real progress. My first profitable year was 2009, and I then started planning for life outside the normal 9-to-5.

I managed to go full-time in 2012 and made a full-time living from betting and trading, and all in all, I had a wonderful run until I decided to take a step back in April 2023. Between 2018 & the end of 2022, my personal life was tough, and along the way, I lost my mojo. The Tory government's introduction of the government white paper on gambling reform didn't help, especially if you happened to be someone who liked to help ‘friends and family' with their online betting.

After making the choice to move gambling into the back seat and have more human interaction, I set about thinking about how I could rebalance gambling with a new purpose. I made the big decision of going back to a ‘regular job', but I didn't just want to be bean-counting in a factory making widgets (nothing against widgets), so I made the conscious choice to move into the third sector. I'm delighted to say that bringing my skill set to the charity world has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. The wonderful stories I've heard, the people I've met, will all stick with me forever. Without sounding too twee, I feel my contribution is so worthwhile.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm still betting thousands each month, and I'm still making a profit each year (£12k in 2024, £14k in 2025), it's just not at the level I was used to. And I'm okay with that. I'll keep running this site for as long as I still have the inspiration to do so, and, of course, only if I'm confident there is still profitable information to share.

Bets For Today

Like lots of people interested in betting online, I bought systems, paid for tips and was generally disappointed with the quality and spam that followed. I decided to create my own site to offer something with integrity and reliable results.

My vision for Bets For Today was to make it one of the best online resources for bettors looking to make consistent profits from their betting.

I believe in treating people the way I want to be treated, and that's the approach I take throughout Bets For Today.

There's no spam, no hard sell, and no recommendations for anything I wouldn't use or bet on myself.

Affiliate Disclosure

Reviews are completed of tipster services, betting software, bookmakers with free bets and much more.

Affiliate links are used where applicable. Affiliate links are special codes that indicate a tipster knows you came to their site from the review on Bets For Today. If you go on to make a purchase, Bets For Today earns a commission for referring you.

It doesn't cost you any more to purchase via our affiliate link; the commission comes out of the sellers' fees. The commissions do help, though, as they allow me to commission more content and develop the site further to get it closer to the vision I have in mind.

Any reviews that receive an approved rating are based on merit. Nothing will ever get an approved rating, simply to earn a commission for Bets For Today.

I hope you enjoy the site, and if you have any questions or feedback, you can contact me here.

Take care,
