Yesterday our first selection On The Slopes ran in the 3.20 pm race at Kempton and managed to finish in third position from four runners, scuppering our chances of landing the double.
He led and ran at a steady pace in the early stages of the race, and all looked well pushing on ahead with three furlongs left to run. However, with two left to travel, he was challenged and weakened in the closing stages and was overtaken by two others. Good race, but just not his day.
Our second selection Three C's ran in the 7.45 pm race at Southwell and managed to win nicely for us by a shoulder, at odds of 11/10 SP at the bookies.
He put pressure on the leader with three lengths to make up, and his efforts paid off as he kept on and managed to take the lead in the final strides of the race. This horse should do well in the future based on the speed he shown in the closing stages.
Today's first selection
Today's first selection is Declaring Love and runs in the 7.15 pm race at Wolverhampton.
The going at Wolverhampton is standard over this Tapeta all-weather course. The race is a class five Novice Stakes race over six furlongs and has eight runners headed to post. The age criteria is for three-year-olds and upwards, with all bar one being three years old.
Form looks to be a bit sparse for the runners in this race today, with a couple making their debuts for their yards. Declaring Love has the most experience and, to be honest, it is difficult to see where the danger will be. Should be an easy win for us. He has eight tips to his name, with the only other horse picking any tips being Mellys Flyer.
John Butler is our trainer today with a recent run to form figure of seventy-five per cent. He's won one race from his last eight horses over the previous fortnight, with a further two placings to add to that tally.
Adam Kirby is the jockey on board and has won eight races from his last twenty-nine rides with seven further placings to add to that total. Looks like a decent jockey. He generally rides at Lingfield, but with racing limited right now due to the current cold weather, I guess he needs to ride where racing is still ongoing.
Declaring Love last ran one-hundred-and-seventy-six days ago, which is quite some time back. Still, I'm confident he must have done well over the gallops to be the favourite today and is highly tipped to win. His last race was in one class higher than today's where he finished in sixth position. Previous to that he's run close races, generally managing to place, so he should be able to get back to form in today's race amongst the weaker competition.
Today's second selection
Today's second selection is Eldelbar and runs in the 7.45 pm race at Wolverhampton.
This is the last remaining race within the UK today, hoping it still manages to go ahead despite the low temperatures. The race is a class six Handicap race, being run over six furlongs. Eleven runners are competing, with the age criteria being for four-year-olds and upwards. The youngest is a four-year-old, the eldest a seven-year-old.
A potential threat could be Choosey who beat Eldelbar in his last race, so they look set to fight it out once again today. However, our selection looks to have the edge, judging on best recent form. Hopefully, he'll take his revenge today here at Wolverhampton.
Eldelbar has five tips to his name, Choosey three, Charles Le Brun has two, and I'm Watching You with just the one. It looks like the tipsters are looking at a two-horse race between our selection and Choosey. Will be interesting to see how this one pans out.
Geoffrey Harker is the trainer for our second selection; he has a recent run to form figure of sixty-seven per cent. He's had just the three horses running for him over the last fourteen days but, he has won two of these races, both being with our selection today.
Sam James is our jockey today, with two wins from his last four races over the previous two weeks, once again whilst riding Eldelbar. This horse does seem to be doing well for this trainer/jockey partnership, so confident of the win again today.
Eldelbar last ran just nine days ago and has a course and a distance win under his belt, though not in the same race. He won his last two races, with the same jockey on board, although over one furlong longer than today's race. Before that, he's run well, at least placing, and usually with Sam James taking the saddle; the two will have made a good bond together over these previous races.
Currently, you can secure the double odds of 7.88 at Bet365. 5/4 for Declaring Love and 5/2 for Eldelbar. Good luck everyone.
Have a great day and let's hope our selections win for us today. James
